    Situation

Mental health issues are a growing burden on young people and society, and have been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis. 2022 NHS data analysed by the British Psychological Society showed that the number of under 19’s in contact with children and young people’s mental health services has risen by 55% in the last two years, and they have highlighted the urgent need for investment in early intervention services. Mental health can feel like a heavy, medical topic, something to be left to the professionals. The term mental health can carry negative connotations which increase stigma, reduce communication and prevent people from learning about and looking after their own minds.

    Solution

By equipping teachers with knowledge and skills about how our brains work and sharing some basic principles to enable them to communicate positively and confidently on the topic of mental health. Mindapples helps school communities position mental health and wellbeing as desirable topics. By showing everyone that we all have mental health, and aiding an understanding of how the things they do every day can affect it, we aim to empower people to make their own choices about how best to look after their minds.
